What 𛱟 means
It is a combined-vowel sign in Duployan spelling. “Wei” is the letter’s label, not a universal pronunciation. Unicode associates this form with Salishan, the family of Salish languages.
Émile Duployé published French stenographic shorthand in 1860. In British Columbia, Jean-Marie-Raphaël Le Jeune adapted it as Wawa writing for Chinook Jargon and Salish languages; the Kamloops Wawa newsletter used this adaptation from 1891–1923. A French shorthand thus became a working script for other languages.
