Alone, ፰ has the value eight. Put it before ፻, the Ethiopic sign for one hundred, and ፰፻ means eight hundred.
The Ethiopic numeral system developed under Greek influence between 300 BC and 600 AD. It adapted the Byzantine Greek practice of using letters as numbers, with possible influence from Coptic, an Egyptian writing tradition. The signs let writers record numbers within Ethiopic text.
