What ⶶ means
It writes the “Zzo” vowel form in a Bench consonant series.
Each form in the seven-character series keeps the consonant and changes the vowel.
The earliest known Ge’ez inscriptions date to the 8th century BC, long before these Bench additions. The retroflex series were proposed by 1981 and entered Bench schools in 1994. A 1998 encoding proposal reports at least a decade of publishing use, including Qay Wog, a Bench New Testament, school materials, and a dictionary then in progress. As of 2024, Bench was rarely written; its Latin-based orthography was created in 2008 and used in schools.
