What ⶴ means
It writes one of the additional Bench syllables in Ethiopic script.
The 1998 proposal says the Bench extensions had been proposed as early as 1981, were already in publishing use by 1998, and entered school systems in Ethiopia in 1994. It describes their added consonants as retroflex—made with the tongue curled back—and says handwritten versions added a small v-shaped mark above the base letters.
The added Bench set also includes SS, CC, and CCH rows. A Latin-letter way to write Bench was created for school use in 2008; ⶴ belongs to the Ethiopic route.

2Why does ⶴ look different in different fonts?
Some fonts lack Ethiopic Extended glyphs; others draw the contour differently. As of 2026, the coverage table lists Abyssinica SIL as complete across the Ethiopic ranges.

A Unicode public-review note in 2018 corrected the label for U+2DA0–U+2DBF: it is the Bench syllable range, not Sebatbeit.
