What 뵌 means
It means “saw or met respectfully” before a noun.
In 뵌 분, it means “a person someone saw or met respectfully.” Korean puts this modifier before the noun, so 뵌 usually needs the noun that follows.
On a standard Korean two-set keyboard, press ㅂ, ㅗ, ㅣ, ㄴ; the sequence qhls composes 뵌.
Why does 뵌 sound respectful?
It raises the person seen, not the person doing the seeing.
뵌 comes from 뵈다, the honorific counterpart of 보다 (“see/meet”), used when the person seen is owed respect. This is object honorification: the grammatical object is honored, not automatically the speaker.
The verb family is attested in Korean from the 15th century. Older forms such as 뵈옵다 and 뵙다 belong to its history; earlier Korean honorifics could also mark respect toward a listener. In today’s 뵌, respect goes to the person seen.
Should I send 뵌 by itself?
No: it usually needs the noun that follows it.
By itself, 뵌 is an unfinished modifier. 뵌 분 means “a person someone saw or met respectfully”; 뵌 친척 means “a relative someone met respectfully.”
Respectful: it honors the person seen and normally has a noun after it.
Don’t replace it with 본 if you mean to keep respect for the person seen.
