What 칭 means
By itself, 칭 has no fixed meaning; it is one Korean syllable.
It usually appears inside longer words. In 가칭하다, 칭 is part of a verb for giving something a provisional name; in 개칭하다, it is part of a verb meaning to rename. The surrounding syllables determine which word you have.
Hangul was created under King Sejong in 1443, and an explanatory book called Hunminjeongeum appeared in 1446. Korean writers had also adapted Chinese characters in methods such as idu, hyangchal and gugyeol; those methods could be cumbersome for writing Korean speech and grammar. Hangul provided a purpose-built alphabet whose letters group into syllable blocks. Its use later widened from books and letters into ordinary household and public writing.
How do I type 칭?
Enter ㅊ, ㅣ, then ㅇ with Korean input active.
A Korean IME (input method editor) joins those jamo—the letters used to build Hangul syllables—into one block as you type. On the standard two-set layout, the Latin-labeled keys C, L and D enter them in that order.
Fonts can change the spacing and proportions inside the block, while the character remains the same Hangul text syllable.

Questions people ask
2Is 칭 an emoji?
No. 칭 is Hangul text; its block shape comes from the way Korean syllables are written, not from emoji styling.
Why is 칭 spelled Cing?
“Cing” is the spelling used in this character’s English Unicode name; modern Korean romanization writes 칭 as “ching.” Neither spelling gives the syllable an English meaning.
