What 맍 means
It is Korean text; a Korean word gives the syllable its meaning. In Hangul, 맍 is one syllable block made from ㅁ ㅏ ㄵ. The ending ㄵ is a double final consonant: two Hangul letters share the syllable’s final position, called jongseong or batchim; the letter components are jamo.
“Manj” in the Unicode name labels this written syllable; it is not an English translation.
how do I type 맍?
Enter ㅁ, ㅏ, ㄴ, then ㅈ in a Korean IME. The input method combines ㄴ and ㅈ as final ㄵ, producing 맍.
The sequence ᄆ ᅡ ᆬ represents the same syllable in conjoining jamo, the forms used to join letters into a block. Unicode can represent 맍 as one precomposed block or its canonical jamo sequence; an editor or font without suitable Hangul shaping may show separate letters or a missing-glyph box.
where did Hangul come from?
Hangul is an alphabet designed to write Korean. An official record says 28 letters had been made in 1443; a 1446 record notes the completion of Hunminjeongeum, a book explaining the script.
Before Hangul, Korean was written with Chinese characters and adaptations such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal, which used those characters to record Korean speech and grammar. These methods were difficult for most people; Hangul offered a smaller, teachable way to write Korean and share knowledge.
Hangul’s use grew from Buddhist and Confucian publications to royal and private letters, laws, health advice, and other practical texts. Phags-pa, a separate script based on Tibetan and used for languages of the Yuan empire, is discussed as a possible influence on Hangul; that link remains debated, and it does not make 맍 a Phags-pa character.
Neutral in Korean writing; outside a Korean word or sentence, the block alone gives little context.
As a reaction, it may look like accidental Korean text.

1Why does 맍 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
