Hangul syllable 팯

팯 is a Hangul syllable, not an emoji; alone, it has no fixed meaning. In Korean, its letters form a syllable within a word.

What 팯 means

On its own, 팯 has no fixed message meaning. It is a syllable in Hangul, the Korean writing system. “Is 팯 an emoji?” No: a consonant, vowel and final consonant form one block; the word gives it meaning. These letters are jamo.

Hangul was devised to write Korean speech in syllable blocks. Its earliest documentary record dates to 1443; the guide 훈민정음 appeared in 1446. Chinese characters stayed in official use at first; court women and Buddhist communities helped spread Hangul. By the late Joseon period, novels had a broad readership.

Why is 팯 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
