Hangul syllable Ryags

3000/11172

랷 is a Korean syllable block, not a complete word, so it has no word-level translation by itself. It spells ㄹ ㅑ ㄳ; in a Korean word, the k-like ㄱ closes the syllable and the s-like ㅅ can carry into a following vowel. “Ryags” describes the parts, not a meaning.

What 랷 means

랷 is a Korean syllable block, not a complete word.

Its spelling combines ㄹ (the initial consonant), ㅑ (the vowel “ya”), and ㄳ (two consonants, ㄱ ㅅ, written at the end). “Ryags” is a computer label based on those parts, not a Korean word or translation. In a Korean word, ㄳ usually closes a syllable with its k-like ㄱ; before a vowel suffix, its s-like ㅅ can carry into the next syllable.

Hangul was developed under King Sejong in 1443 and published with an explanatory text in 1446 as a way to write Korean speech. Earlier, Korean had been written with Chinese characters and methods such as Idu; Hangul offered a system designed around Korean sounds. During Japanese colonial rule, using Hangul could carry cultural and national meaning. These are histories of Hangul as a writing system, not separate meanings of 랷.

How do I type 랷?

On the common 2-beolsik layout, press f, i, r, then t.

The Korean input method maps f to ㄹ, i to ㅑ, and r t to ㄳ, then composes 랷 as one block. Other Korean layouts use different key maps.

Why does 랷 look broken?

A font or text conversion can expose its parts.

When font coverage is missing, a fallback can show a box or separate-looking jamo. The stored character can still be 랷.

Normalization can store 랷 as one precomposed syllable (NFC) or as its equivalent sequence of jamo (NFD). A Korean-capable app normally renders both as the same syllable; if the pieces show separately, the font or shaping path is exposing the sequence.

Neutral as a Hangul spelling unit; its word-level meaning depends on the Korean word around it.

“Ryags” labels the syllable's parts; it is not a Korean word to translate.

Why does 랷 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
