hangul syllable ryalm

Hangul syllable ryalm

3007/11172

As of 2026-09-13, 랾 has no established everyday meaning on its own; it is a Hangul syllable block. In Korean text, its reading belongs to the word around it; alone, it mainly appears as a writing-system sample. “Ryalm” describes the block’s parts, not a translation.

What 랾 means

It is a Hangul syllable block, not a word translation.

Its parts are ㄹ as the initial consonant, ㅑ as the vowel, and ㄻ as the two-consonant final. “Ryalm” names that structure, not an English translation; a Korean word containing the syllable supplies its meaning.

Hangul, the Korean alphabet, was created under King Sejong to make writing Korean more accessible than relying on Chinese-character conventions. It dates to 1443 and 1446: the script was devised in 1443 and explained in a book, Hunminjeongeum, published in 1446.

Why does 랾 look like a Korean word?

Because Hangul groups letters into square syllable blocks.

랾 belongs to the modern set of precomposed Hangul syllables: it is a valid combination whether or not it appears in an ordinary word. 랴 has no final consonant; 랽 ends in ㄹ, while 랾 ends in the two-consonant cluster ㄻ.

Across periods, the Korean script has been called Hunminjeongeum, Eonmun (“vernacular writing”), Gukmun (“national writing”), and Hangeul. Hunminjeongeum is also the title of the book that explained the script; these names describe the wider writing system, not an extra meaning for 랾.

How do I type 랾?

With a Korean two-set keyboard, enter the jamo in order.

With Korean two-set input active, type ㄹ, ㅑ, ㄹ, ㅁ in that order; the IME joins them into 랾. The last two jamo form its final cluster ㄻ.

Font design changes the shape and placement of Hangul components. A sequence entered as separate jamo may display differently from the precomposed block if a font or app has limited support for Hangul joining rules.

Plain Korean text, not a reaction: its meaning depends on the word around it.

Alone, it has no reliable everyday reading.

Why does 랾 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
