Hangul Syllable Tyeoss

9597/11172

텼 is a Korean Hangul syllable block, not an emoji: its parts are ㅌ ㅕ ㅆ, and the Korean word around it decides the reading. Use this page to type or check the exact block. Note that tyeoss is not a translation.

What 텼 means

It has no fixed meaning in isolation; context supplies the Korean word. 텼 is a precomposed Hangul block made from ㅌ ㅕ ㅆ. The Unicode name describes those parts; tyeoss is not a translation. Read it inside a Korean word, never as a reaction or pictogram.

The bottom ㅆ is batchim, and final ㅆ pronunciation depends on position. At the end of a word or before a consonant, standard Korean realizes it as [ㄷ], a clipped t-like sound; before a vowel, it can carry into the next syllable. So placement in the word decides how 텼 sounds.

How do I type the exact character 텼?

Use a Korean 2-beolsik IME: x, u, then Shiftt. On the standard South Korean 2-beolsik layout, x enters ㅌ, u enters ㅕ, and Shiftt enters tense ㅆ; the IME assembles the block automatically.

If the result stays as separated jamo, the input method is not composing. That is a text-normalization issue, not a new character. Switch to a Korean IME so the sequence composes into 텼. In any particular font, component shapes may shift slightly. For a one-off, copy it from the palette above.

The history is in the system, not the glyph

Hangul 1443 and 1446 are the anchor dates: the script's creation was first recorded in 1443 and its explanatory book, Hunminjeongeum Haerye, was published in 1446. Hangul was designed as modular blocks of consonants and vowels, with an optional final, so readers could write Korean speech that Chinese characters fit poorly. That invention belongs to the system, not to 텼 alone.

At the script's creation, ㅆ was described as a doubled consonant used chiefly for artificial readings of Chinese characters, with rare Korean transcription; modern Korean uses it as a regular tense consonant. Its relatives are the jamo ㅌ, ㅕ, and ㅆ, plus neighbors 텨 and 텻: one drops the final, one swaps ㅆ for ㅅ.

Neutral Korean text, but opaque if you do not read Hangul; treat it as a letter.

Do not send it as decorative emoji and expect a message.

1

Why does 텼 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
