What ䷖ means
Hexagram 23 warns that a structure is coming apart; protect what holds. An I Ching hexagram is a six-line sign used in divination. Here Mountain sits above Earth: a structure losing the support beneath it. The six line positions are read together, so the pattern is part of the interpretation, not decoration.
Where does hexagram 23 come from? Its name and symbol belong to the Zhou Yi, a Chinese divination text said to originate circa 1000 BCE and later known as the Yijing or Book of Changes. Early manuscripts show more than one version of the text; the oldest surviving copy is a Warring States-era bamboo manuscript held by the Shanghai Museum.
The Zhou Yi's judgment says not to go forward. A Han-era commentary develops that advice into waiting for the right time and protecting yourself from harm.
What does hexagram 23 mean when someone sends it?
Alone, ䷖ does not settle what the sender means. They may mean a divination reading, or use “coming apart” as a metaphor. Ask which situation they have in mind before treating it as a breakup announcement.
The six-line pattern is notation interpreted within Yijing readings. As a text character, ䷖ takes its visible design from the active font; if the font lacks it, the glyph may appear as a blank box.
A traditional Yijing divination sign; outside that context, it signals a specialized reference.
Sent alone, it does not confirm a breakup; ask what the sender means.
