What 𘬋 means
The numbered label identifies the glyph, not its Khitan reading.
Word signs could stand alone; sound signs usually formed two-to-eight-character blocks. Inside a block, characters ran left-to-right then top-to-bottom, while full text traditionally ran in vertical columns from right to left.
When was Khitan small script created?
Traditional accounts credit Yelü Diela with creating it about 925 CE.
That date is debated: Junyoung Kang's 2026 study points to a Khitan letter unread at Korea's Goryeo court in 1011 and a 1051 epitaph. Chinese characters shaped its forms; Unicode also links its creation to Uyghur writing used by Turkic peoples to the west, though the scripts look different. Jurchen writing later adapted Khitan models; the Jin court abolished official use in 1191.

1Why does 𘬋 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
