khitan small script character-18c2f

Khitan Small Script character

304/471

𘰯 is a sign in the Khitan Small Script; its Unicode label isn't a translation. In the Liao dynasty, Khitan writing mixed word and sound signs, drew on Chinese characters, and served government and culture. Jurchens adapted Khitan models for their 12th-century scripts. Traditional records date it to 924–925, but a 2026 study argues it was systematized later; the earliest securely dated surviving text is a 1051 tomb inscription.

Why does 𘰯 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
