What 𘰵 means
It is one sign in a partly deciphered writing system.
Khitan Small Script mixes word signs with sound signs that can cluster into whole words; alone, a glyph may be only part of what an inscription says.
How was Khitan Small Script used?
It recorded Khitan under the Liao, Qara-Khitai (Western Liao), and Jin.
Traditional histories credit the Liao emperor’s brother Yelü Diela and date the script’s creation around 925. A 2026 study disputes that timeline: the earliest securely dated surviving text it identifies is from 1051, and it argues wide use came later.
Chinese forms influenced it, and sources credit Uyghur writing as an inspiration. The Jurchen people later modeled their scripts on Khitan ones. A Jin edict ended official use in 1191; texts ran vertically in columns from right to left.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘰵 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
