What 𘱩 means

The Unicode name labels the code point, not a Khitan reading.

Some Khitan signs stood for whole words; others represented sounds and joined to spell words. Context shows each sign’s role.

When was Khitan Small Script created?

Khitan prince Yelü Diela created it around 925 to write Khitan. Chinese character forms shaped its design; the influence of Uyghur writing, used by Turkic peoples farther west, is reported, though few visible similarities remain.

The earliest known inscription dates to the Chongxi era (1032–1055), under Liao emperor Xingzong.

It remained in use under Jin after Liao fell. The Jurchen who founded Jin later adapted Khitan script models.

Why can Khitan text look different on screen?

The script can be laid out in vertical or horizontal clusters. A horizontal line of separate characters is also supported, but may hide how signs group into words.

Why does 𘱩 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
