What 𘲭 means
It adds sound to a word. A scholarly index transcribes it as giủ, a reconstruction. Khitan phonograms (sound signs) usually join in blocks of two to eight to spell words; some single signs stand for whole words.
How did Khitan Small Script develop?
It was made to write Khitan. Tradition credits Khitan scholar Yelü Diela and dates its creation to around 925. Its glyphs draw on Chinese forms; Uyghur writing is named as a source of its sound-based design, though the scripts look little alike.
A 2026 study questions that date: the oldest securely dated record is a 1051 epitaph. The script continued under Jin rule until the court abolished it in 1191. Jurchen writing systems were modeled on both Khitan scripts.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘲭 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
