What 𘲮 means
They come from separate scholarly reconstructions.
Daniel Kane writes “ju”; Wu and Janhunen write “ju3.” These Latin-letter spellings are scholars’ reconstructions of Khitan sounds, not word translations.
Khitan sound signs usually group together to spell a whole word. Inside a group, signs are ordered left to right, then downward; vertical columns run right to left.
Khitan writing has a disputed timeline.
Traditional histories credit Yelü Diela with creating the script around 925. A 2026 reassessment identifies the Wugulin Taishi epitaph, a grave inscription from 1051, as the oldest securely dated text; a 2017 survey starts its catalogue at 1053. The script was made to write Khitan and drew on Chinese character structures. Some accounts also cite Uyghur script as inspiration, though few forms resemble it. Later Jurchen scripts adapted Khitan models.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘲮 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
