khitan small script character-18cc2

Khitan small-script character 18CC2

451/471

𘳂 is a Khitan small-script character from northern China; Unicode’s name identifies a code point, not a reading. Khitan prince Yelü Diela devised the script around 925 to write Khitan with Chinese forms; it was reportedly inspired by Uyghur writing. The earliest dated inscriptions are from 1053; tombs and objects attest use under Liao and Jin. Jurchen scripts adapted Khitan models; Unicode 17.0 describes the script as partly deciphered.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘳂 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
