What 𑈄 means
It is Khojki’s independent letter for the vowel e.
It can stand as a letter on its own. The related dependent sign 𑈰 marks the same vowel on a consonant; 𑈄 belongs in Khojki spelling, not as a substitute for Latin e.
Why did Khojki develop?
It grew from merchant writing into religious and literary use.
Khojki developed from Landa, a family of South Asian merchant scripts used for records and accounting. An eighth-century potsherd inscription from Bhanbhore in Sindh has been identified as Lārī or Lohānākī, a predecessor to Khojki. Manuscripts attest the later script by the 16th century; one Ismaili historical account lists a manuscript from 1737 as its earliest written evidence.
Nizari Ismaili tradition credits the missionary Pir Sadruddin with spreading and shaping Khojki. It was used for devotional ginans (poems) and other works in Sindhi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Siraiki, and languages related to Hindi. Khojki is also called Khwajah Sindhi or simply Sindhi; Gurmukhi, used for Sikh religious writing, is the other Landa script developed for a liturgical role.
Heritage and archival: it signals Khojki writing, especially Nizari Ismaili literary and religious material.
Inserting it into Latin text changes the writing system and can be mistaken for a font error.

1Why does Khojki E show as a box?
It can. The character may be present while the active font lacks Khojki coverage, so the box signals a font gap rather than a different letter.
