It tells a service guide which hymn forms are included.
It marks a Troparion and Kontakion—two hymn forms—but no Oikos, another hymn form.
Syrnikov's 1910 guide for Yedinoverie, an Orthodox community keeping older rites, records it. His system draws on marks attributed to St. Gennadius of Novgorod around 1500; the wider Typicon symbol tradition (Orthodox service-book notation) is attributed to Nicon of the Black Mountain in the 11th century.
