What ࡅ means
Its roots are disputed: Aramaic or Parthian government writing.
Mandaic reads right to left; joining can change this letter's displayed shape.
Mandaeans in southern Mesopotamia used the script for ritual and liturgical writing. Early documents include ritual charms on lead rolls and terracotta bowls; the bowls date to AD 600–800, and some rolls are earlier. Later Mandaic appears in sacred manuscripts and some Neo-Mandaic (modern Mandaic) writing. The script has an Aramaic family link; Elymaic and Characene are proposed relatives.

1Why does ࡅ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
