mathematical bold script capital g

Mathematical Bold Script Capital G

203/996

𝓖 is a bold script Latin capital used as a symbol in mathematical or technical notation. The formula tells you which quantity it names. Unicode intends this alphabet for technical notation, not ordinary prose.

Text symbol

What 𝓖 means

It marks a separate mathematical symbol; the formula assigns its role.

This is a handwriting-like form of Latin capital G. In a formula, surrounding notation tells you which object it names.

Styled letters already appeared in mathematical and scientific print. A 1999 Unicode proposal asked for separate characters so plain text could preserve styles that carry mathematical meaning; Unicode added the set in 2001. NFKC text cleanup can reduce 𝓖 to plain G.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𝓖 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
