What 𝓮 means
A formula uses it as a distinct, bold-script e.
𝓮 is the Latin lowercase e in bold script: script means handwriting-like. The style marks a separate mathematical letter, but it has no fixed value; the surrounding formula assigns its role.
A 1999 Unicode proposal describes script and bold-script Latin alphabets as already used in mathematical and scientific publishing. It sought separate characters so plain text could preserve their different meanings.
Should I use 𝓮 to style a word?
Use text formatting for ordinary prose.
Unicode intended these alphabets for mathematical notation, where letter style can change which symbol you mean. In ordinary prose, using a separate character to imitate a cursive font may interfere with searches and text cleanup. NFKC, a Unicode compatibility-normalization form, can turn 𝓮 into plain e and erase the style distinction.
In formulas it is a distinct mathematical letter; in ordinary words it is decorative script styling.
For prose, use text formatting: NFKC can flatten this mathematical e to plain e.

1Why does 𝓮 look different in another font?
It can. Unicode's chart shows one sample, not a required design; mathematical fonts draw script letters in different calligraphic styles. The character remains 𝓮.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
