What 𝚢 means
Its style can distinguish mathematical variables. Monospace means every character has the same width; the equation defines 𝚢's role.
STIX, a scientific-publishing project, began in 1995. By its 1999 proposal, mathematical style alphabets were already used in scientific publishing; encoding them helped preserve distinctions in electronic and print formulas.
