What ᱗ means
It marks seven in an Ol Chiki number.
Raghunath Murmu designed Ol Chiki in 1925 for Santali, the language of the Santal people. Santali was also written in Roman, Bengali, Odia, and Devanagari, which did not clearly mark sound contrasts such as glottalized sounds (a brief catch in the throat).
Early use is documented in a 1936 printed book and a 1939 public demonstration. Santali's 2003 addition to India's constitutional list of recognized languages strengthened Ol Chiki's institutional use. Script choice varies by region as of 2026; some northern Jharkhand speakers use Latin or Devanagari.
Neutral as a number; Ol Chiki can signal a connection to Santal language and community.

1Why does ᱗ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Ol Chiki block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
