What means
Mahendra Nath Sardar developed Ol Onal between 1981 and 1992. Adim Bhumij Samaj chose it in a 1992 contest from three proposals.
Bhumij has also been written in Odia, Bengali, Devanagari and Latin scripts. Ol Onal was designed with a lowercase set called Galang Onal too, but teaching and print use uppercase alone. The chart groups letters by the first vowel in their names, as do Ol Chiki and Nag Mundari.
A 2020 example from Odisha documents Ol Onal in Bhumij ritual use. The script also appears in primers, banners, inscriptions and wedding invitations.

1Why does show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
