What means
No. OO is the Romanized label for one letter. The Ol Onal chart gives its sound as /o/, a single Bhumij vowel—not two successive sounds.
Why was Ol Onal created for Bhumij?
It was designed to write Bhumij, a language of eastern India. Mahendra Nath Sardar began developing Ol Onal around 1981; the Odisha-based Adim Bhumij Samaj selected it in a 1992 competition among three proposed scripts. The name pairs words translated as “draw” and “shape or diagram.”
Did Ol Onal include lowercase letters?
Yes, as a planned lowercase set. It was called Galang Onal. By 2022, teaching and printed materials used the capital series, called Ol Onal.
