What 𐒍 means
It is the f letter used in Somali written with Osmanya.
𐒍 represents the f sound in a Somali word, much as Latin f does in Somali written with Latin letters. Osmanya is written from left to right, so a single 𐒍 identifies a consonant but cannot spell a complete word.
Cismaan Yuusuf Keenadiid devised Osmanya in 1920–1922 to give Somali its own alphabet. Before that, the Somali religious scholar Sheikh Uweys had tried an Arabic-based way to write Somali. Observers documented it in 1931–1932, after private correspondence had begun. After 1945, Somali groups promoted it for education and national use. Both Osmanya and Latin spelling systems were adopted for use in Somalia in 1961; a 1969 coup reopened the writing-system debate, and Latin became the official way to write Somali in 1973. By 1977, Osmanya still appeared in private correspondence and bookkeeping; books and a biweekly journal were also produced in it.
What does 𐒍 say by itself?
By itself, it identifies the letter, not a whole word.
Read it as a letter sample or a fragment of Somali text. This character alone does not identify the sender's intent; the surrounding message does.
A Somali spelling letter; its reading depends on the word around it.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐒍 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Osmanya block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
