What ᛰ means
It marks the last golden number: year 19.
A golden number is a year’s place in a 19-year moon cycle, used to track new moons. The Younger Futhark, a 16-rune alphabet, had only sixteen letters, so calendars added Arlaug (17), Tvimadur (18) and Belgthor (19).
A Swedish church register entry dated 1600 records the old name belgbunden Tor and includes a drawing. A manuscript dated 1712 explains Belgthor’s history.
Why can Belgthor look different?
The active font determines its outline.
Without a font containing ᛰ, software may show a missing-glyph box or fallback shape. That changes the display, not the character.
A specialist historical calendar sign.
Its name includes Thor; the recorded use is calendrical.

Questions people ask
1Why does ᛰ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
