What ꢡ means
Use a Unicode-aware editor with a Saurashtra font and input method.
Azhagi’s Unicode phonetic method, documented as of 2026, uses the Pagul font in a Unicode-aware editor. Press CtrlF10 to activate it, then type through the phonetic layout with Latin letters.
What does ꢡ mean?
It marks the ta consonant in Saurashtra spelling.
Saurashtra is an Indo-European language related to Gujarati and has also been written with Tamil, Telugu and Devanagari scripts; ꢡ specifically belongs to its own script.
Like many South Asian scripts, Saurashtra normally gives a consonant a built-in vowel; a mark called virama cancels it. A 1944 account distinguishes one Saurashtra script used in 1880 from a later form used around 1890 to 1908; Unicode describes the modernized script as developed in the 1880s. Together, these accounts trace a print reform: older forms joined consonants, while modern Saurashtra visibly marks the vowel’s removal.
Neutral in Saurashtra text; the word around it supplies the meaning.

1Why does ꢡ show as a square?
A missing Saurashtra font is usually the cause. A 2011 web-support report documented squares or question marks when systems lacked the needed font; this is a rendering-support problem.
