What 𑇌 means
It makes the attached vowel extra short. In Kashmiri Sharada, 𑇌 is a matra, a mark added to a vowel sign. With 𑆴 or 𑆶, it marks extra-short i or u.
A Kashmiri Sharada text dated 1896 shows the mark; Grierson’s 1919 work reproduces the example. A 2012 proposal reports use through at least the 1910s. Sharada’s script history also connects to Takri, another script, through Devāśeṣa, a 14th-century form.
As of 2026, modern Sharada is linked to ritual, scholarship, and revival; this mark belongs to specialist spelling.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 𑇌 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Sharada block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
