What 𑇊 means
It adds a Kashmiri consonant Sharada cannot write with a separate letter.
Use the Sharada nukta after a consonant when Kashmiri spelling needs a sound Sharada lacks as a separate letter. The documented combinations represent “ch” as in church, “ch” with a breathy release, and “z” as in zoo.
A Sharada running-text example dates to 1896; the signs remained in use into at least the 1910s. A review in 2012 found no later examples, leaving the end of the practice uncertain.
Where did the Sharada script develop?
Sharada grew from earlier Brahmi and Gupta writing traditions in the northwest.
It spread across the western Himalayas. One later branch led to Devashesha and then Takri; that script history does not establish that every descendant used this mark.
A technical spelling mark, not a conversational reaction.
A lone 𑇊 has no consonant to modify; place it after the intended Sharada letter.

3Questions people ask
3Can 𑇊 be used by itself?
No. It needs a Sharada base consonant; alone, it does not identify which consonant sound is being extended.
Is 𑇊 the same as a Devanagari nukta?
No. They belong to different scripts. Use the mark that matches the script of the surrounding consonant.
Why does the Sharada nukta look wrong in some fonts?
It is a combining mark. A font positions it against a base letter, so an isolated mark can look detached or incomplete.
