What 𑖢 means
It represents pa, with the vowel “a” built in. Vowel signs change it; a virama mark cancels the “a”. Siddham grew from Gupta writing in sixth-century North India. From the eighth century, Siddhamātṛkā developed into Sharada, Proto-Bengali/Gaudi, and Nagari. Chinese monks linked Sanskrit sounds to Buddhist teaching; Siddham study waned in China after the Northern Song period. Japan’s Shingon and Tendai Buddhists use it ritually as bonji; a Kōyasan notice records study in 2024.
This is specialized Siddham writing, chiefly seen in Buddhist study and ritual.
