What 𑖞 means
It is a dental t released with a puff of breath.
Siddham is an abugida: a writing system in which each consonant normally includes an “a” vowel. A vowel mark changes it; a virama removes it, often joining the consonant to another. One 𑖞 alone therefore does not give a full word, mantra, or deity name.
Siddham developed in South Asia around the 5th century CE from Gupta, a form of the older Brahmi script. It served for Sanskrit, including Buddhist manuscripts. Buddhist transmission carried it to China around the 6th and 7th centuries CE, then onward to Korea and Japan.
How did Siddham move across Asia?
It became part of Buddhist study and ritual beyond South Asia.
Siddham is historically related to Sharada and structurally resembles Devanagari, two other scripts of the Indian writing tradition; it is not an alternate font for either. In China, Siddham was also studied as a way to describe Sanskrit sounds and letters; some Buddhist writings gave alphabet letters esoteric interpretations.
As of 2025, Siddham remains mainly in East Asian Buddhist use, especially in the Japanese Buddhist schools Shingon and Tendai. Japanese ritual texts may place a letter vertically or add pronunciation notes; the layout does not make 𑖞 a different kind of character.
What does it mean when someone sends 𑖞?
Alone, it is an incomplete letter, not a full message.
A lone 𑖞 could be a character reference, a transliteration example, or a quotation from Sanskrit or Buddhist writing. The glyph does not identify which word, formula, or deity the sender means.
If the meaning matters, ask for the surrounding word or inscription. The full syllables determine its reading.
Scholarly, archival, or devotional; in casual chat it reads as a script reference without context.
Do not assign it a deity or mantra meaning from this letter alone.

Questions people ask
2Is 𑖞 a mantra?
No. A mantra or dharani (a Buddhist formula) may contain this consonant, but the character alone cannot identify the full text or a deity.
Why is Siddham letter tha not showing?
If 𑖞 appears as a box or stays blank, your font may lack Siddham support or your software may not shape the script. Try a Siddham-capable font such as Noto Sans Siddham.
