Soyombo Letter Bha

36/83

𑩳 is the Soyombo letter bha, a consonant in the Soyombo script. Zanabazar created the script for Mongolian writing and Buddhist texts in Sanskrit and Tibetan; this letter belongs to that system, not Mongolia’s national Soyombo emblem. Its vowel signs and a special subjoiner can combine with it to build a fuller syllable.

What 𑩳 means

It is a consonant letter in the Soyombo script. The Soyombo bha letter marks a consonant; it does not carry an independent picture-like message. Zanabazar created the script in 1686 for Mongolian writing and for Sanskrit and Tibetan texts in a Buddhist setting. Its consonant order follows Tibetan; Zanabazar also developed the related Zanabazar Square script, which is a separate script.

By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Soyombo was less widely used and taught in limited courses. It appeared mainly in manuscripts, inscriptions, and ceremonial settings, shifting from working Buddhist and multilingual writing toward historical and decorative use.

How does Soyombo bha fit into a syllable?

It is a consonant base; other signs complete the syllable. Soyombo consonant letters normally carry an unwritten “a” vowel. A vowel sign changes that vowel, and a special subjoiner lets consonants form a vertical stack. So 𑩳 alone identifies a letter; surrounding signs can build a fuller syllable.

Why does 𑩳 show as a box?

The font may not include Soyombo characters. Apps rely on fonts to draw this script. Soyombo letters combine a frame with a sound-bearing center, while vowel signs attach around them; fonts can position those parts differently. If the chosen font lacks Soyombo coverage, a box or fallback glyph may appear. The display changes, but the text still contains 𑩳.

Specialist and historical; it belongs in Soyombo texts and script-focused design.

Mongolia’s national Soyombo emblem is a separate mark; 𑩳 is a letter.

Why does 𑩳 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
