What ㏔ means
It stands for “mb,” short for millibar. Weather writing also uses “mbar.” The square form fits “mb” into one East Asian character cell. Unicode’s compatibility text conversion, called NFKC, turns it back into ordinary letters.
The millibar entered official British weather reporting by 1914; France announced adoption for 1917.
Should I use ㏔? It is technical and archival; “mb” or “mbar” reads clearer in new text.
Drift: As of 2026, the U.S. National Weather Service glossary defines MB as a measure of atmospheric pressure. Japan changed official weather reporting from mb to hPa in 1992.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
