Superhero: light skin tone

You helped, and they are calling you a hero for it. The caped figure is shorthand for "you saved the day": you covered a shift, fixed what nobody else could, remembered the birthday. It is praise in costume, not a comment about superpowers.

Scale sets the tone. For a tiny favor it is affectionate exaggeration, an award you both know is oversized. For real help in a bad moment it reads as plain admiration. Sent on its own before an exam, race or interview, it is a pep talk: go be the hero. Next to a film title or a costume photo it can simply mean superheroes, with nobody being praised.

Where does the caped-hero look come from?

From American superhero comics. A superhero is a fictional character with unusual powers or skills who uses them to help people. The modern genre took shape in US comic books after Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, appeared in 1938; Batman and Wonder Woman soon followed. Capes, masks that hide a secret identity and chest emblems became recurring costume motifs, widely recognized through decades of films.

The emoji keeps the generic costume and copies no particular character. Phone makers pick their own colors, so it may be red and blue on one phone and purple on another. The base 🦸 has no stated gender; the variant picker adds skin tones and man and woman forms. It arrived alongside its opposite, the supervillain 🦹.
