What does Takri 7 mean?

It is the digit for seven in Takri. In a Takri number it marks a quantity; in a lesson or transcription it shows how the script writes seven.

Takri is a script used for languages of northern India and surrounding areas, including Chambeali and Dogri. It descends from Sharada through Devāśeṣa, an intermediate script used for religious and official purposes that emerged in the 14th century; distinct Takri developed in the 16th century. Takri served commercial and informal writing, as well as official work in several princely states from the 17th century until the middle of the 20th century. It appears in records, manuscripts, inscriptions, and postage stamps. By the late 19th century it was used alongside Devanagari, which gradually replaced it. Sharada is its predecessor; Gurmukhi and Landa are related scripts.

Why does Takri 7 look different?

Regional forms and fonts can change its outline. The Unicode chart’s representative forms are mainly based on a Chamba variety; other Takri varieties can look quite different. These are glyph variations, not different numbers.

If it appears as an empty box or fallback mark, the font lacks Takri coverage. Its value is still seven.

In Latin-script text, 𑛇 points to a Takri-specific context; readers unfamiliar with the script may not recognize it as seven.

For readers who do not know Takri, use 7 or identify the script.

Why does 𑛇 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
