What 𑇗 means
It is the decimal digit seven. In a Sharada numeral, 𑇗 contributes seven to the written number.
Sharada developed from forms in the Brahmi script family, an older South Asian writing tradition. Its earliest known inscription, at Hund, dates to 774 CE. Later manuscript evidence includes the Bakhshali mathematical text, assigned to the 12th century, and a 14th-century manuscript written on birch bark, the earliest Sharada manuscript known from Kashmir.
Sharada was used for Sanskrit, Kashmiri, and other regional languages in inscriptions and manuscripts, including scientific and mathematical works. Its historical connections include Siddham, a related Brahmi-based script; Takri, which descended from Sharada; and later Sharada branches that contributed to the Landa and Gurmukhi scripts. In the 19th century, increased use of Arabic script for Kashmiri and growing use of Devanagari helped marginalize Sharada. As of 2026, its surviving use is specialized in Kashmiri Pandit horoscopes and rituals.
