What ௗ means
Use ஔ alone or ௌ after a consonant. ௗ is the final component in decomposed Tamil AU forms, not a vowel used by itself. For ordinary Tamil text, enter the complete independent vowel ஔ or the dependent vowel sign ௌ.
Its role is structural: it encodes the trailing piece of the AU spelling in decomposed text, rather than a separate Tamil vowel or word.
What is the decomposed Tamil AU form?
It represents the AU vowel as separate spelling components. In decomposed text, the independent vowel appears as ஔ; after a consonant, the sign appears in a sequence such as கௌ. There, the Tamil E vowel sign ெ comes before ௗ in logical order. Unicode normalization form NFD splits complete AU characters into their components; NFC recombines them into ஔ or ௌ when possible.
Alone, ௗ reads like an encoding fragment; in Tamil spelling it belongs to a decomposed AU form.
Avoid a bare mark in formal Tamil; a Tamil Nadu standard from 2010 treated the isolated sequence as defective.
