Tangut Component-124

124/768

𘡻 is a Tangut script component: a named piece used when describing larger characters, not a complete word. Researchers use Tangut components to classify and analyze the script; this one has no single translation of its own.

What 𘡻 means

It is a structural label within Tangut writing, not a word.

A Tangut component describes part of a larger character, and components can also organize dictionary entries. Component 124 has no stable word translation of its own; its role depends on the Tangut characters it helps analyze.

The Tangut script was promulgated around 1036 for the Western Xia (Xixia) state and used for official, literary, and Buddhist writing. Tangut writing continued after the state fell in 1227; the latest known monuments are dated 1502.

Why do Tangut components have different jobs?

Different characters can use the same component in different ways.

Modern Tangut dictionaries do not share one component list. Unicode brings together forms from several scholarly dictionaries and publications, so researchers can index full characters by their parts and write Ideographic Description Sequences—short descriptions showing how a character is assembled.

The 12th-century Tangut reference work Sea of Characters linked full characters to source characters—other forms whose parts could contribute sound or meaning. A component's role can vary across characters, so this one has no fixed gloss.

How do I type and display it?

Use a Tangut input method and a font that supports the script.

As of 2026, Rime, an input-method framework, offers a Xunpin schema for reconstructed Tangut sound input, stroke input, four-corner input, and component selection.

A square usually means the current font lacks Tangut coverage. The character is still there; a Tangut-supporting font is needed to show its shape.

Its register is scholarly and technical: it fits character analysis, cataloguing, or font testing.

It is not a normal Tangut word; it labels a structural part used to analyze characters.

Why does it show as a square?

It can. Your current font may lack Tangut coverage; a font with Tangut support will render the character's shape.
