What 𘩒 means
It is an encoded structural part, not a complete Tangut character.
Some reference works call this kind of component a Tangut radical. Researchers use components to describe and index full Tangut characters in dictionaries and in Ideographic Description Sequences (IDS), a notation that shows a character’s parts. The number 595 is a catalog index, not a translation.
Why was the Tangut script created?
It emerged around 1036 as Western Xia developed its state.
The first Western Xia emperor promoted Tangut writing for state-building and official, private, and religious use. Early texts included Buddhist scriptures and translations of Chinese works. After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing continued in Buddhist contexts before becoming obsolete.
Western Xia followed state-building models from neighboring Khitan peoples, while Tangut characters adopted design principles associated with Chinese writing. Tangut remained a distinct script. In modern scholarship, no single component or radical system governs every reference work.
A scholarly reference symbol used in Tangut-script study, dictionary indexing, and font testing.
Do not read 𘩒 by itself as a translated Tangut word.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘩒 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut Components block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
