What 𘫞 means
No reliable word meaning or pronunciation on its own.
𘫞 is a structural part of a larger Tangut character. Dictionaries may use component forms as radicals—lookup keys—but the full character carries the reading and meaning.
Why did Tangut writing use components?
They help organize and analyze larger characters.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 under Western Xia's first emperor to write the Tangut language. It appears in official, private, and religious texts, including books, sutras, inscriptions, and manuscripts.
After Western Xia fell, the script remained in use during the Yuan and Ming dynasties and became obsolete by the end of Ming. Modern component sets bring together systems from dictionaries and publications so scholars can index, describe, and analyze Tangut writing.
Why can't I translate a Tangut component directly?
A component label describes structure, not a word.
Tangut dictionaries use different ways to index and analyze characters. An element may be treated as a dictionary radical or shown as part of an Ideographic Description Sequence (IDS), a notation that shows how a character is assembled; neither label guarantees the element's own sound or meaning.
The Sea of Characters, a historical Tangut reference work, connects component forms with larger characters. Unicode preserves components for indexing and analysis.
This reads as Tangut scholarship, dictionary indexing, or a font and Unicode test—not casual conversation.
A component alone does not give you the larger character's reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘫞 show as a box?
