What 𗀤 means
It means “little” or “few.” Tangut was the language written by the Western Xia state; Xixia is another English name for that state, so this is also searchable as a Xixia character.
The character’s earliest cited textual witness is in the 12th century, in Tóngyīn (“Homophones”), a Tangut text about the language’s sounds and readings. Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036 as part of state-building. Tangut texts continue into the late twelfth century and the thirteenth; many are Buddhist works, alongside translations from Chinese.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It gave the Western Xia state a writing system for Tangut. Chinese writing influenced its visual and structural design, but Tangut is a different language and script. The Khitan script was another regional state script in the political setting for Western Xia’s choice.
How do I type 𗀤?
Enter U17024 where hexadecimal Unicode entry is supported. The exact keystroke depends on your operating system and app. “Tangut Ideograph-17024” is an algorithmic Unicode label for the encoded position, not the character’s reading or translation. Display also requires a font with Tangut coverage.
A specialist, historical-script character rather than an ordinary modern chat word.
Without Tangut context, the glyph alone does not tell a reader “little” or “few.”
