What 𗀧 means

𗀧 is a Tangut verb meaning “to slander” or “to falsely accuse.” Tangut is the script of the now-extinct Tangut language. The script was created around 1036 under Li Yuanhao, the first emperor of Western Xia, to support a distinct state identity and texts such as its Buddhist canon, a collection of scriptures. A surviving manuscript from the Khara-Khoto site probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut writing outlasted Western Xia and became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.

Why does 𗀧 look Chinese?

Tangut uses square, stroke-built forms; it is a separate script from Chinese. At a glance, the writing shares a visual tradition with Chinese characters, but the two systems have different signs, so 𗀧 has no Chinese reading. The neighboring Khitan states also developed official scripts, while Tangut books translated Chinese and Tibetan works. These are regional and literary links, not evidence that 𗀧 descends from a particular Chinese character.

What does it mean when someone sends 𗀧?

Treat it as a Tangut word before treating it as a reaction. In a glossary or historical quotation, translate it with the surrounding sentence. In ordinary chat, the glyph alone does not tell you why it was sent; its dictionary gloss is not enough to conclude that the sender is accusing you.

Scholarly or archival; in ordinary chat it reads as a historical-language reference, not a standard reaction.

Its Chinese-like shape does not make it Chinese, and its dictionary gloss alone cannot prove the sender's intent.
