Text symbol

What 𗅽 means

It is Tangut text.

L2008-2817 is a catalogue label; *tew¹ is scholarly notation for its reconstructed sound, not a translation.

Where was the Tangut script used?

The Western Xia state ordered the script for Tangut writing.

It served administration, Buddhist texts, and inscriptions. The earliest transmitted Tangut document cited is dated 1072; this is the script’s record, not 𗅽’s first appearance.

A Baoding inscription dated 1502 shows later Tangut use after Western Xia fell. The script drew on Chinese forms and was discussed alongside Khitan and Jurchen; it remains distinct from Han Chinese.

Scholarly and archival; alone, read it as Tangut text.

A lone message is not a chat reaction.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𗅽 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
