What 𗋟 means
Its dictionary gloss is “to wash.”
A Tangut dictionary gives 𗋟 the English gloss “to wash.” It translates a Tangut word, not a whole sentence; the surrounding text supplies its full context.
Why is 𗋟 not Chinese?
It belongs to Tangut writing, a script distinct from Chinese.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 for Western Xia, a state in northwestern China. An official document from 1072 is the earliest surviving example discussed in modern scholarship. Tangut writing served state records and translations of Confucian and Buddhist works.
Western Xia fell in 1227, but Tangut writing continued during the Yuan and Ming dynasties; a 1502 inscription is a late surviving witness. Scholars have discussed possible influence from the Khitan script, another writing system used in the region, but that historical link remains debated.
Someone sent me 𗋟 — what does it mean?
Treat it as a Tangut word; ask for the surrounding sentence.
A lone character does not tell you why it was sent. The sender could be quoting a Tangut word or referring to the script; ask for context or a translation if the message does not make that clear.
A character from historical Tangut writing; add a translation for readers unfamiliar with the script.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗋟 appear as a box?
Usually, a box means the character is missing from the active font. That is font-dependent: if the active font lacks Tangut coverage, it may show a box even though the character remains in the text. A Tangut-capable font can draw it.
