𗌐 is a character in the Tangut script, used to write the historical Tangut language. Its chart identifier L2008-3002 locates it in a Tangut dictionary; it is not an English translation. You’ll meet it in historical or scholarly Tangut text, and a box on screen usually means the font lacks Tangut coverage.

What 𗌐 means

It is a Tangut character; its Unicode label is not a translation.

The Tangut dictionary reference for 𗌐 is L2008-3002; that number is a lookup key, not an English gloss. To translate it, consult the dictionary entry and the surrounding Tangut text.

Why was Tangut script created?

It served the Western Xia state and its religious writing. The Tangut script was devised around 1036–1037 for the Western Xia state, helping express a political identity distinct from Song China. It carried official records and Buddhist translations. Its square, Chinese-like design did not make its characters Chinese or Khitan; Tangut was its own writing system.

The earliest cited surviving witness is an official document sent to a military officer in Guazhou in 1072; it dates the script, not 𗌐’s first appearance. A manuscript from the ruins of Khara-khoto is probably from the 12th or early 13th century, and the latest known Tangut inscription dates to 1502. After the script left everyday use, its surviving texts became material for historical scholarship.

How to type 𗌐

Use a Tangut-specific input method. A dedicated method accepts a Tangut code or key sequence and presents candidate characters. If 𗌐 appears as a square or blank, the text may still be present: the active font needs Tangut coverage to draw it.
