What 𗏚 means

Its dictionary gloss is “stem.”

Tangut writing was commissioned in 1036 to support Western Xia state-building. It later carried Buddhist texts, Chinese translations, and nonreligious works. Its earliest surviving document dates to 1072; a 1502 inscription shows use after Western Xia fell.

Tangut writing uses Chinese-style character structure but remains a distinct script. A recorded breakdown places 𘡃 on 𗏚’s left and 𘨻 on its right.
